Passenger vehicle ownership in Japan is at around one car for every two people but in Tokyo it is only one car for every four people due to lack of investments in rural infrastructure and the opposite phenomenon in the cities. Even so there are so many cars about in Tokyo that they have to park on top of vending machines!
